Kina‘ole Entrepreneurship: Starting a Business, the Right Way
Tuesdays | June 10-August 13, 2025 | 5:30-7:00 p.m. on Zoom

Kinaʻole is a Hawaiian cultural value that guided craftspeople in creating meaningful products and services. It means “doing the right thing, in the right way, at the right time, in the right place, to the right person, for the right reason, with the right feeling.”

When starting a business, embracing the philosophy of kinaʻole is essential for building a company that delivers value-added, agriculture-based products with a customer-first approach—leading to long-term profitability and growth.

The Wahiawā Value-Added Product Development Center is excited to introduce a dynamic 8-week course in starting a new business focused on developing an agricultural based value-added product.


Early Bird Rate: $199 (until June 4)

Regular Rate: $239

Course Description and Goals:

Equip aspiring entrepreneurs with little to no business experience to develop a value-added, agriculture-based product and gain essential go-to-market business skills.

Help participants develop or refine a value-added product concept.

Build a “go-to-market business model” using the highly recognized Lean Launch method.

Provide participants to develop their “go to market” business skills

Prepare participants to be eligible to apply for an upcoming ʻĀina to Mākeke cohort.

Receive a Certificate of Completion for completing BUS5350–Starting a New Business.



Applicant Qualifications:

The value-added product must contain at least one Hawaiʻi-sourced ingredient.

The applicant must be committed to actively working towards starting their business.

The applicant must be fully committed to completing the course.



This course starts on Tuesday, June 10 and will continue each Tuesday for 9 weeks culminating with the exciting ʻĀina to Mākeke Cohort Showcase event on August 13 at the Wahiawā Value -Added Product Development Center.


This course is being delivered through the Online Synchronous class format via ZOOM. Class times are 5:30 -7:00 pm
